How much does it cost to import a kei truck?
Most kei trucks land around $6,000–$8,000 all-in — that covers the vehicle purchase in Japan, ocean freight, port fees, customs, delivery, and our flat sourcing fee. The exact number depends on the vehicle and any options you want, so ask us for a quote on a specific truck before you commit.
How long does the whole process take?
Usually 8–10 weeks from the day you place an order to the day you have your NC title in hand. That covers sourcing/auction, ocean shipping from Japan, U.S. customs clearance, and delivery.
Are kei trucks street legal?
Yes. We only import vehicles 25 years or older, which qualifies them for the federal exemption from FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) — the same rule that lets classic and import cars onto U.S. roads once they hit that age. That means no gray-market workarounds and no aftermarket safety modifications required.
What paperwork do I get, and do I have to deal with any Japanese documents?
No — we handle all of that on our end. You leave with an NC title and a dealer reassignment form, which is everything the NC DMV needs to register the vehicle in your name. You never have to read, translate, or submit any Japanese import paperwork yourself.
Do you offer financing?
Not yet — right now we accept cash, cashier’s check, Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, and Zelle. We’re actively working on financing options, so check back or ask us for the latest.
What is the 25-year import rule?
U.S. law exempts vehicles that are 25 years or older from having to meet FMVSS, the safety and emissions standards required for newer imports. It’s why kei trucks and other Japanese-market vehicles of that age can be legally imported and registered here at all. We only source vehicles that already qualify, so you never have to track the rule yourself.
Do I need to travel to Japan or bid at auction myself?
No. We source the vehicle, handle the Japan-side purchase and auction process, arrange shipping, and clear customs on your behalf. Your part is choosing the truck (or telling us what you want via our Direct Purchase Request form) and picking it up, or having it delivered, once it lands.
